Your (Style) Guide to the Emmys

In honor of the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards that air tomorrow evening, I have put together a recap of my favorite looks that absolutely stunned from last year. But let’s not stop there, after our quick recap, we’ll imagine what gowns some of our favorite nominees will be wearing to this year’s awards.

Clearly these bombshells stayed within a muted color-palette last year. With blush pinks and off-whites, the colors allowed the silhouette’s of these fantastic gowns to shine on their own. And no complaints here!

However, I’m hoping to see a much bolder red carpet this year. Since many of this year’s nominees are fashion conscious on the shows they star in, it will be intriguing to see what tricks their stylists have up their gowns (er- sleeves).

So, similar to an “Imagined Celebrity Connections” bit from Vanity Fair (which I anxious anticipate every single week), we are going to imagine what some of our favorite nominees will be wearing tomorrow night.

Imagined Emmy Ensembles:

First up to bat – Robin Wright, House of Cards, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Claire Underwood

Maybe it’s my profound love for House of Cards, or maybe I just think she’s stunning, but I absolutely cannot wait to see what Robin Wright shows up in. I think she would look fantastic in something similar to the Alexander McQueen gown worn by Sandra Bullock at this year’s Oscars. Except in true Claire Underwood fashion, we need to see her demand the attention of the room in a black jaw-dropper.

Kerry Washington, Scandal, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Olivia Pope always looks perfectly put together and feminine. Here’s to hoping Kerry will channel that elegant femininity and don something similar to that of Nicole Richie at the Golden Globes this year in a Naeem Khan gown. I think Kerry should channel this look, but in a “scandalous” red.

Lena Dunham, Girls, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

Lena Dunham

Based off her dress from last year’s Emmy awards, Lena Dunham managed to land herself on quite a few worst dressed lists. Do we think she actually cared? Probably not. But we know that she can do better than the oversized, unflattering floral print Prada she donned last year. I’d love to see Lena stun in a short, fun frock in a bold emerald green or cobalt blue. Maybe something similar to the silhoutette of Hailee Steinfeld at the 2011 Oscars when she wore a beautiful powder pink Marchesa gown.

Kristen Wiig, The Spoils of Babylon, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie

I have NO idea what “The Spoils of Babylon” is, but I saw Kristen Wiig was a nominee, and I love her, so I just went with it. I always love to see her red carpet looks. She always (pleasantly) surprises me. This year, if her hair is currently brown (the girl looks great in any hair shade), let’s hope she shows up in form-fitting canary yellow number. Maybe something like the Atelier Versace gown Kate Hudson wore to the Oscars this year.

Julie Bowen, Modern Family, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

Julie Bowen

I think that we can all agree that Julie Bowen could show up to the Emmys in a paper sack and she would be the most naturally beautiful person in the room. However, we know she is too classy for such antics. (Claire Dunphy would totes disapprove.) We need to see Julie in a navy blue showstopper with flowing edge. I wish she’d channel Lupita Nyong’o’s powder blue Prada from this year’s Oscars.

So now all that’s left to do is sit back, wait, relax, pop some popcorn, and speculate. I’m not judging you if you choose to watch the VMA’s tonight (wait, yes I totally am), but if you must choose between which awards show to see, choose the Emmy’s. No brainer, people.
